Alpine announced the 24-year-old German, son of seven-times F1 world champion Michael, on Wednesday as one of six drivers competing for them in two A424 Hypercars. Schumacher will join French drivers Nicolas Lapierre, Matthieu Vaxiviere, Charles Milesi and Paul-Loup Chatin as well as Austrian Ferdinand Habsburg. Mercedes confirmed separately that the German, who raced for Haas in Formula One in 2021 and 2022, would continue as their reserve. "A new chapter is beginning for me with Alpine," said Schumacher.

Russian President Vladimir Putin shakes hands with Chinese President Xi Jinping during a meeting at the Belt and Road Forum in Beijing, China, October 18, 2023. "If the United States can effectively rally the world, it’s bad for them. Now, as Israel’s war against Palestinian militant group Hamas threatens to spiral into a broader conflict that could shatter stability in the Middle East, China has called for a ceasefire while criticizing Israel’s actions. It also highlights China’s deep economic interests in both Russia and the Middle East, which it wants to safeguard at all cost. The world’s second largest economy depends on Russia and the Middle East for much of its energy needs. The Middle East is also a cornerstone in the Belt and Road Initiative. “Regional conflagration means long instability and long instability means no business for China in the Middle East,” he added.

But according to Deepwater Asset Management, there's one under-the-radar AI stock that will be essential for the long-term infrastructure rollout of artificial intelligence. "An under-the-radar AI stock is Vertiv," Doug Clinton, managing partner at Deepwater, told CNBC's "Street Signs Asia" last week. The company's specialty is graphics processing units, or GPUs, which have become the preferred chips for the large AI models that underpin generative AI software. "We think [Vertiv has] a great tailwind for the next three to five years as this AI hardware buildout continues," Clinton added. Alphabet Alphabet , which Clinton described as Deepwater's largest AI holding, has a "great catalyst" for the latter half of this year: the launch of its latest AI model Gemini.

Wang Yi, China's top diplomat, said the country would continue to play a constructive role in handling global "hotspot issues". But after the killings of more than 900 Israelis in coordinated assaults by the Islamic group Hamas, China's response was muted. China is willing to maintain communication with all parties and make unremitting efforts for peace and stability in the Middle East," Wang Wenbin, a foreign ministry spokesperson, said on Tuesday. "The achievement of peace in the Middle East region and the just settlement of the question of Palestine are inseparable." "China is very successful in a stable environment in the Middle East when it's possible to broker reconciliation agreements between Saudi Arabia and Iran," said Jean-Loup Samaan, Senior Research Fellow at the Middle East Institute of the National University of Singapore.

“They (the Americans) don’t want to see Saudi Arabia shifting their armament from America to another place,” Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman (MBS) told Fox News’ Bret Baier in an interview last month. Gulf states have over the past few years faced attacks they have blamed on Iran and its proxies, and have found the US’ response to them inadequate. Among the Gulf states, Bahrain, which hosts the US Navy’s Fifth Fleet, was the first to be declared a MNNA in 2002. It is however unclear if the US would commit to a treaty that would require it to come to the Gulf states’ defense in case of attack. The president can offer some concessions without Senate ratification, he said, but that won’t meet Gulf states’ requirements.

Padres pitchers took a combined no-hitter into the ninth and wound up with a two-hit shutout for the team's sixth straight win. Robert Suarez followed Snell with a perfect eighth before Brendan Rodgers lined a single past Bogaerts at short off Josh Hader (1-3). Bogaerts then snuck a fly ball just inside the left field foul pole off Tyler Kinley (0-3) to win it. Dodgers right-hander Ryan Pepiot entered in the second inning and gave up one run on five hits over six innings. Toronto's Yusei Kikuchi (10-6) allowed one run and four hits in five-plus innings for his first win since Aug. 2.

Artificial intelligence algorithms are increasingly being used in financial services — but they come with some serious risks around discrimination. And the problem of amplifying existing biases can be even more severe when it comes to banking and financial services. As for financial services, Manji said a lot of the backend data systems are fragmented in different languages and formats. "Individuals have little knowledge of how AI systems work and that their individual case may, in fact, be the tip of a systems-wide iceberg. Among the top worries industry insiders expressed are misinformation; racial and gender bias embedded in AI algorithms; and "hallucinations" generated by ChatGPT-like tools.

"That's why every country in the world is worried about bird flu," French agriculture minister Marc Fesneau said. But the fear of trade restrictions remains centre stage for countries reluctant to vaccinate poultry against bird flu. Bird flu can also mutate rapidly and reduce the efficacy of vaccines while programmes are costly and time consuming, as shots often need to be administered individually. Ceva said it was using the mRNA technology used in some COVID shots for the first time in poultry vaccines. The global market for bird flu vaccines would be about 800 million to 1 billion doses per year, excluding China, said Sylvain Comte, corporate marketing director for poultry at Ceva.
Meta's ads unit will only recover if it continues to innovate so it doesn't need to track user data to sell ads. In 2021, Apple changed its iOS operating system to limit the abilities of apps to track user behavior. Apple CEO Tim Cook, for his part, has criticized Facebook's business model several times over the years, with Apple going so far as to declare privacy a "human right." It's clear from Meta's most recent earnings report, and its drive for efficiency and cost-cutting, that this cold war with Apple is taking its toll on the bottom line. "It's forced Meta to move so quickly to building the workarounds, not just to accommodate Apple's changes, but really where it sees the state of digital advertising data use going," Shmulik said.
Google needs to focus on building up its AI business while also keeping costs under control. Building up its AI business needs to be a top priorityThe events of the last few days show Microsoft and Google are clearly in an AI arms race — one that Google needs to win for its own sake. Google needs to double down on its own AI prowess right now, given the threat, Wall Street analysts said. However, they emphasize that Google needs to be thoughtful and show why its technology is better than OpenAI rather than being reactive. Maintaining efficiency while retaining an innovative cultureTo win in AI, however, Google needs to maintain its culture of innovation.
Apple is now the only major tech giant that hasn't conducted mass layoffs recently. Apple is in a different position than its peers because it has been more strategic about its growth. Wall Street hopes that CEO Tim Cook's pragmatic approach puts Apple in a better spot. Apple is in a different, stronger position, though, industry analysts tell Insider — a position that they say validates CEO Tim Cook's pragmatic approach to growth. Lastly, another hallmark of Cook's strategy is that Apple doesn't have a history of pouring money into risky, whimsical side projects.
Tesla's price cuts will cause earnings to dive 25% this year, according to Loup's Gene Munster. "It's a win for consumers and Tesla's brand. Musk's cash-out and erratic behavior on the social media site are partly responsible for damaging Tesla's brand, Munster said. But he thinks the Tesla's image is now being repaired with price cuts, since the move will be favorable with Tesla's customers. Tesla is going to gain market share near term which has long term market share benefits as the EV market ramps," Munster tweeted.

Analysts and industry observers have compared Tesla and CEO Elon Musk to Apple and Steve Jobs. Tesla isn't the next AppleBoth Apple and Tesla had a first-mover advantage, another reason so many analysts like to draw parallels between the two brands. When Tesla emerged with top-selling electric cars, the Tesla Model Y and Tesla Model 3, held a commanding market share in North America. A shrinking market share isn't disastrous for Tesla — part of the reason Tesla's market share will shrink is that every auto maker will be selling a lot more EVs. The world's largest automaker, Toyota, had a market share of just 10.5% in 2021 — nowhere near the 55% market share Apple holds in the US.
